The image shows an eruption of Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park. The day, which started out partly cloudy, soon developed into overcast conditions that included a brief shower containing a rain/sleet mix. An opening in the clouds developed before the eruption that allowed direct sunlight into the immediate area. This lighting caused the water column to take on the three-dimension effect seen here.
