This is an image of 103P/Hartley taken on the night of October 16, 2010. Hartley is gliding through a dim star field in the constellation of Perseus. From a dark sky, the comet's coma was estimated to be nearly one degree in diameter. In this view from my backyard observatory, the coma is around one half of a degree in diameter. Also seen in the image is a short, subtle tail that points to the lower right of the frame.
